Metallica: A Brief History of…

1981 Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield form a band including original bassist
Ron McGovney and lead guitarist, Dave Mustaine and call it Metallica.

1983 Metallica gets a new bassist by the name of Cliff Burton. The band then boots Mustaine and picks up Kirk Hammett. Kill ‘Em All the bands first album is released later that year. Originally released on Megaforce records, then released by Elektra with the additional tracks Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg but those two tracks were later removed.

1984 Metallica’s second album, Ride the Lightning, is released.

1986 Metallica’s third release, Master of Puppets, sells a million copies in the U.S. alone. Cliff Burton is killed in a bus accident while on tour in Sweden. Soon after, new bassist Jason Newsted joins Metallica.
